BTE/Citgo Event & Bakersfield Under The Lights / Dreher Wins Two Races
With 108 degree temperatures and $3.00 a gallon gas prices in California, the BTE/Citgo Series came to Famosa Raceway for the K&N California Bracket Nationals. Promoters Chris Barker and Danny Sons decided with the low car count to make the racers in attendance happy. The promoters along with the Famosa Raceway staff decided to run two events back to back starting at 5:30PM Saturday to fight the heat conditions. The first race concluded Saturday around 10:30PM.
In Afco S/Pro Steve Shearer from Porterville California defeated another local Bakersfield racer Dustin Harris for the win. In the final both drivers where .042 on the tree with Shearer running closer to the dial. In the Pace American Run for the Trailer Chuck Hawk took home the cash, 1 championship point and the first round bye.
In Dynatech Sportsman it was all Greg Dreher and Chris Vels. These two not only met in the finals of race I but also race II. Both times the outcome was the same. In race I Vels had oiling problems giving Dreher the first win. In race II Dreher was .003 on the tree to Vels' .061. That was all Dreher needed for win number two. Dreher from Van Nuys California who is probably one of the best sportsman racers on the west coast, also won the Run For The Trailer in Afco S/Pro in race II. Dreher wanted to dedicate the wins to the Allen family. Neil Allen a father and all around good guy passsed away recently. Rest in Peace Neil.
The Dynatech Run for the Money winners were Mike Oniel in race number I and Sam Browns Mopar in race II.
In race II in Afco S/Pro Jess Nelson from Maraposa Arizona made a huge move in Jegs division 7 and the Race Tech Championship standings when he made a runner up appearance in race II in the Morgan Capital Undercover dragster. In the final Dan Beebe went dead on with a zero as Nelson was .002 off the dial for the runner up spot.
In Race Tech Jr Dragster in Race I it was Brendon Stach from Santa Clarite California defeating Brad Hawk from Tucson Arazona where Stachs .016 light outlasted Hawks .019 light in a outstanding Race Tech Jr Dragster final. In the Run for The Money Brads brother Matt took home the cash.
In Race Tech Jr Dragster race II Brett Shoffner defeated Austin Frye from Taft California when Frye red lighted in the final. Brad Hawk was the Run For the Money winner.
"The legendary Bakersfield facilty was the best I have ever seen on the west coast", replied promoter Danny Sons of the BTE/Citgo Series.
