Orlando Speed World Dragway won the NHRA Southeast Division Summit Racing Series Team Championship in a close battle with Montgomery Motorsports Park and Music City Raceway while Brandon Jarrell led the list of individual winners at the Southeast Division Summit Finals at Atlanta Dragway.

The team from Orlando, Fla., racked up 42 points to hold off Montgomery Motorsports Park, Montgomery, Ala., and Music City, Goodlettsville, Tenn., who tied for second with 39. Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville and Bristol Dragway were fourth and fifth with 38 and 37 respectively.

Joining Jarrell with individual trophies and advancing on to the NHRA Summit National Championship were Chad Brewer, Bill Crutcher and Roy Koch who each won their eliminator on Sunday. Via a special wild card drawing held early this year, Jerry Turner will also move on to the nationals in Pomona, Calif., by winning the division’s Summit Race of Champions event in Super Pro Bike.

Jarrell, Ashland City, Tenn., drove his ’83 S-10 to eight round wins in Super Pro, capping it off with a 6.834 second lap at 90.16 mph to defeat Wesley Mayfield, Gainesville, Ga., who had troubles right off the start. Brewer, Canton, Ga., cruised to victory in the Pro ET class when Brendan George, Gainesville, Fla., left early by just .004 seconds handing the win to Brewer who ran it out to an 6.845 on his 6.85 dial.

Crutcher took home the trophy in Sportsman as he was better than Kevin Roberts at both ends of the track and Koch won on a big holeshot in Super Pro Bike over Robert Meeks. Crutcher, Cedar Hill, Tenn., took the early lead in his ’67 Nova and never looked back posting an 8.304 second run on his 8.30 dial to Roberts, St. Pete, Fla., who broke out. Koch, Loxahatchee, Fla., had more than a tenth of a second lead off the start and held on to beat Meeks, Tallahassee, Fla., running 5.713 at 111.58 on his ’02 Kawasaki to Meeks’, 5.886, 119.11 on his ’12 Kawasaki.

Amber Acree, Michael Brand II, Wesley Cox and Daniel Young joined Turner with wins in Friday’s Summit Race of Champions. Acree, Newnan, Ga., won in Super Pro right at the start when Zach Jernigan, Cantonment, Fla., red lighted by just .002 seconds in his ’65 Nova. Acree posted a lap of 5.200, 107.74 in her dragster for the win.

Brand, Hayden, Ala., used a perfect reaction time to score the holeshot win in Pro over Travis Bryant, Bowman, Ga. Both drivers ran .012 seconds over their dial with Brand running 7.018 in his ’73 Firebird and Bryant went 6.508 at 104.96 mph in his ’68 Camaro.

Cox combined a .019 second reaction time with an 8.244 run on his 8.24 dial to end Cody Spears day out of Mt. Carmel, Tenn. Spears broke out with a 9.188 on his 9.21 dial.

Young, Palm Harbor, Fla., took home the trophy in the High School class with a .021 second package driving his ’99 Firebird to a 7.677 second, 88.91 mph lap to a red lighting Gabe Ellison, Rogersville, Tenn., and his ’06 Charger.

Turner will race next month in California for the NHRA Summit National Championship with a win over Tim Hunt in the Super Pro Bike Race of Champions. Hunt ran too quick by .014 seconds to break out as Turner was .017 on the tree and .004 over his dial at 5.844, 118.48.

Also in action was the Southeast Division Summit Jr. Drag Racing League with Orlando, again taking the Team Championship followed by Bristol Dragway and Montgomery Motorsports Park.

Individual championships went to Carson Emmitt, Cedar Bluff, Ala., over Wyatt Palmatier, Deland, Fla., in the 6-9 year old class; Cameron Wheeler, Thomaston, Ga., beat Michael Carpenter, St. Petersburg, Fla., in 10-12; and Shannon Nuttall, Rutledge, Tenn., defeated Jennifer Craft, Melbourne, Fla., in 13-17.

In the Jr. Race of Champions it was Palmatier closing the deal on Stephen Skelton, Cleveland, Ga., in 6-9; Brady Fomby, Cottondale, Ala., ended Wheeler’s hopes of a double in 10-12; and Gage Burch, Palmetto, Fla., beat out Ashleigh Stafford, Kernersville, N.C., in 13-17.
