Pete Maduri of San Antonio, Texas won the Top Dragster title at the first IHRA race of the season at the Immokalee Raceway in Immokalee, Florida driving one of the Caruso family's rear engine dragsters.
He was driving Ava Lawler's whip which features a 568 cubic inch big block Chevrolet prepped by Jan-Cen Racing Engines, coupled to a Abruzzi transmission and converter with Mickey Thompson tires that plant the RED to the tune of 4.60 ET's in the 1/8 mile.
"I was sluggish in the first round with a .027 reaction time then put together .004, .001, 007 and .012 reaction times and the car was deadly all weekend,"? said Maduri. "The highlight of the weekend was racing and beating one of my idols, Troy Williams twice and he went -.003 read in the final,"? he continued.
The team consists of Joe Caruso, owner/crew chief, Marc Caruso, owner/driver, Billy Leber, driver, John Vorus, crew chief, Pete Maduri, driver, and Gary DeHay, crew member for the races in Florida.Â Other members include Jackie and Camrie Caruso and Ava Lawler. Billy Leber who drives the other Caruso RED broke a transmission on Sunday morning. Leber will be driving both dragsters this next weekend at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida.
