Newlywed Lamb Doubles in Fallon
6/15/2012
Henderson, NV

Justin Lamb has had a memorable week and a half.  On Friday June 1, he wed longtime girlfriend Jeanine Kilbourn Lamb.  That week, the two enjoyed a beautiful, albeit brief honeymoon before attending the NHRA Lucas Oil Division 7 Event in Fallon, NV.  There, Lamb proved that married life fits him well as a driver: he earned the event titles in both Competition Eliminator and Super Gas, posting the first “double” of his illustrious NHRA career.

Lamb, who will turn 25 this week, has already assembled an impressive sportsman racing resume.  With 8 NHRA National event triumphs in four different categories (Top Dragster, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Stock), he ranks among the most versatile young drivers on the sportsman tour.  He is the defending NHRA Division 7 Competition Eliminator champion, and his most recent victory catapulted him to the top of the 2012 Division 7 standings.

In Fallon, Lamb expertly wheeled both his Sunstate Companies Competition Eliminator Cobalt and Power Probe Super Gas Camaro Roadster through a tough slate of elimination rounds in both categories.  He used his Madcap Race Engines horsepower to qualify on the pole in Competition Eliminator with an impressive -.689, 8.871 elapsed time.  After being forced to use up .06 in CIC penalties in the quarterfinal round opposite Clint Neff, that top qualifying position earned Lamb a semi-final bye run and a chance to square off with Randy Jones in the final.  There, he posted a solid .037 reaction time, but trailed the .024 reaction of Jones off the line.  Lamb was able to squeeze out a narrow .005 victory at the finish line, however, posting a -.523, 8.977 to hold off the -.505, 8.905 of Jones.

“Competition Eliminator makes for some tricky decisions,” explained Lamb.  “With the top qualifying position, we certainly felt like we had the power to win the race.  But in Comp, you have to weigh the costs.  We obviously want to win, but by doing so we can hurt our index for future events.  As difficult as it can be to find additional power and ET in this category, hitting the index can do more harm than an event win can do good at times.  Luckily, things fell into place at Fallon; we won without taking any permanent index hits.  So that’s the best of both worlds!  Huge thanks to Sunstate Companies, Madcap Racing Engines, Tyler and Tim Hogan at Hogan‘s Manifolds, Larry Allen, and everyone who makes our Competition Eliminator program so competitive.”

Meanwhile, Lamb drove his Power Probe Camaro Roadster to the victory in Super Gas, his first win in that category in over a year.  To do so, he outmaneuvered a talent-laden field of 9.90 competitors to square off with former Division 7 Champion Aaron Kinard in the final round.  Lamb saved his best for last, posting a perfect .000 reaction time in the final stanza.  That effort was for naught, however, as Kinard fouled with a -.007 reaction.

“Winning both classes was incredible,” said Lamb.  “Jeanine and I just wrapped up our honeymoon, and I can’t imagine a better way to cap our first week of marriage.  We’ve had a lot of fun over the last week, and sharing some on track success this weekend was icing on the cake.”

Lamb hopes to continue the momentum he gained in Fallon at his next event, the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, IL.  There, Lamb will not only compete in both Competition Eliminator and Super Gas once again, he has also earned the opportunity to represent the Pacific Division as the Competition Eliminator representative in the prestigious JEGS All-Star competition.  In that special event, Lamb will face the top competitors in each of NHRA’s geographic divisions for the title of JEGS All-Star Champion.

“I’m really excited about the trip to Chicago and the JEGS All-Stars competition,” said Lamb.  “This will be my first all-stars experience, and I’ve heard about how big of a spectacle it is for the sportsman racers.  With the Coughlin family and the crew from JEGS involved, I’m sure it will be a top-notch experience, and we’re really looking forward to being a part of it.”

Lamb’s long trip from his Henderson, NV home to Route 66 Raceway near Chicago, IL will be made possible by support from Silver State Refrigeration.

Lamb thanked his major sponsors, Power Probe and Sunstate Companies.  The Lamb Motorsports team was also quick to recognize partner V. Gaines and the following marketing partners for their role in the team’s continued success: Madcap Racing Engines, JEGS, Safety Kleen, K&N Engineering, Lucas Oil, Goodyear Tires, Redback Boots, Matco Tools, Sunstate Companies, Book Racing Carbs, MTS, Palmer Electric, B&B Race Cars, Race Tech, Meziere Enterprises, Larry Allen, and Arnie Martel Racing.
