In the final results from Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., and Brian Hough, Junction City, Ore., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Severance, worked his way through the field and ran 5.390 seconds at 230.21 mph in his final round victory over Johnny Ahten, Santa Clarita, Calif., whose time was disallowed due to a technical infraction with his fuel. Severance qualified #3 and had the early lead in the final as he picked up his 14th regional event win.

Hough faced off against Jay Payne, Claremont, Calif., and posted a winning run of 5.553 seconds, 257.83 mph in his ’10 Mustang.  Payne slowed to a 7.389, 124.68 mph lap for his runner up finish.  Hough is now two for two in 2014 as he won the season opener last month at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Tony Mandella, Riverside, Calif., won in Comp Eliminator when Tyler Hogan, Santa Maria., Calif., fouled at the start and Peter Biondo, Maspeth, N.Y., added to his trophy collection beating Robert Cruzen, Las Vegas, in Super Stock.

John Cooper and Trevor Larson won in Stock and Super Comp respectively as Cooper, LaPorte, Colo., drove his ’64 Fairlane by Michael Brand II, Thornton, Colo., and Larson held off Shane Thompson, Las Vegas with an 8.997 at 174.89.

Other racers visiting the winner’s circle this weekend were Chris Naffziger, Las Vegas, in Super Gas; and Howard Esping, Kent Wash., in Super Street.  In the division’s Top Sportsman class it was Jeff Gillette, Benicia, Calif., taking the win while Moe Trujillo, Happy Valley, Ore., won in Top Dragster. 

Rick Newport rounded out the winners taking home the trophy in the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson.  Newport defeated Bill Burkhart, Anaheim, Calif., in 8.192 seconds at 154.40 mph.

Pacific Division racers head to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, March 21-23.
