California native Jimmy DeFrank took home the trophy in Super Stock for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Sonoma Dragway, in Sonoma, Calif. This win was the second for DeFrank who defeated Jody Lang, Puyallup, Wash.  DeFrank who had a double breakout, posted a winning run of 8.796 seconds, 156.34 mph over Lang’s 10.781 seconds, 119.75 mph runner-up finish. DeFrank started with a 0.002 light and misses his dial by just -0.001 to receive the Super Stock Wally. This is his second Wally of the year receiving the first one at the regional event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.

Another local California native joining the winners circle this weekend is Val Torres, Valinda, Calif. Torres was better on the line posting a 0.014 reaction time and posting a winning run of 8.914 seconds, 169.06 mph over Matt Constant in his dragster who posted a runner up finish of 8.908 seconds, 163.95 mph. Torres received his first Wally of the year with his win in Super Gas at the Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. in February.

Brian Hyerstay, Springfield, Ore., gets a great 0.004 light to start his run in Comp Eliminator posting a time of 9.044 seconds, 139.70 mph to down Mike DePalma Jr., Glendale, Ariz., and his ’00 S-10 at 8.108, 163.43. With Hyerstay’s great start to his run, he holds off a quicker DePalma for the hole shot Comp Eliminator win.

Other racers visiting the winner’s circle this weekend were Kyle Rizzoli, San Luis Obispo, Calif., in Stock Eliminator; Marko Perivolaris, Petaluma, Calif., in Super Gas; and Allen Macham, Everett, Wash., in Super Street.  In the division’s Top Sportsman class it was Jeffrey Gillette, Benicia, Calif., taking the win while Mike MacBriar, Napa, Calif., won in Top Dragster.  In the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley-Davidson, Brain Jennings, Martinez, Calif., took the win while Mike Maggio, San Dimas, Calif., takes the win in the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Series.

 

Pacific Division racers head to Rocky Mountain Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, September 26-28.
